The Minna no Nintendo Channel (Everybody's Nintendo Channel) is the DS demo channel we've heard about, but also includes Wii videos, releases lists (uh-oh!) and the capability to recommend games you own to Wii friends. These recommendations are also collected en masse to be tabulated in December.

The channel currently offers just a few DS downloads, including demos of some training games and a patch for the Japanese version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The demos stream from Nintendo rather than being saved, and are accessed on the DS via Download Play. The video section offers trailers and commercials for new and recent games, including Wii Fit. According to NeoGAF's john tv, the videos keep playing in a corner if you exit the video menu. Check NeoGAF for frequently-updated impressions from the international gadflies who post there. Really, it sounds like the current content is less enthralling than the promise of future content.

Sony Ericsson launches UMTS P990i in India

Sony Ericsson has launched its P990i smartphone in India. It joins our BREW client,
launched in December of 2005, and enables us to support the vast majority
of popular mobile handsets."
Transforms Ordinary Mobile Phones into Networked Smartphones
AirSet's Java and BREW mobile clients transform ordinary mobile phones
into networked smartphones by synchronizing with the AirSet Web service, to
provide users full access to their data on the go. AirSet enhances existing
productivity solutions and provides free desktop synchronization to
Microsoft Outlook and Palm Desktop.
Among the benefits of the AirSet Mobile Client:
* Anytime, anywhere access to AirSet group calendars, contacts and lists.
* Over-the-air sync with everyone in a group: Re-schedule a meeting, add
a contact, edit a list -- and those changes get synched instantly to
everybody in a group.
* Peace-of-mind backup of AirSet Mobile data to AirSet's secure website.
Those with Java-enabled handsets can register for a free one-month
trial of AirSet Mobile at http://www.airset.com/AirSet.jsp#app.Extras . At
the conclusion of the free trial, pricing options are $4.99 a month, $11.99
for three months (20% savings) or $35.99 for an entire year (40% savings).
The AirSet Web service continues to be free.
Consumers with BREW-enabled handsets can also download a commercial
version of AirSet Mobile. A full listing of supported handsets and carriers
can be found at http://www.airset.com.

Playing with Colors

I find working with colors meditative, almost therapeutic. Companies
are making massive investments in building and upgrading infrast-
ructure in this sector. At the same time, regulatory bodies are defining
standards for mobile operators. Technology has played a major role
in the rapid growth of this industry. A number of standards are
already in place. These include Global System for Mobile
Communications (GSM), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA),
third-generation technology (3G), General Packet Radio Service
(GPRS) and Bluetooth.
GSM is the most popular standard. It is the uniformity of the GSM
standard that ensures perfect compatibility between networks and
mobile phones in any location. Through GSM, users in one country
can use their mobile phones to call or receive calls from another
country.
According to statistics, with 1.6 billion customers worldwide, GSM
has increased its share to 77.6 per cent of the total mobile market at
the end of the third quarter of 2005. The global presence of GSM
makes international roaming common and very easy among mobile
phone operators.
GSM is expected to drive business for the entire mobile industry,
including GSM/UMTS deployments. Highlighting some of the
application developments in GSM, a recent report from 3G Americas
discusses the development approaches and business models for
consumers. It also looks at opportunities of growth for the wireless
data market with the GSM family of technologies.
The ideal wireless application caters to the distinct requirements of
the mobile user, and is not just a mobilised version of an existing
wireline application. The GSM application does just that. GSM
operators are offering value-added services such as Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP) gateways, billing systems, Digital Rights
Management (DRM) systems and location-based services. These
services enhance the effectiveness of the applications. Moreover, the
GSM/UMTS family offers considerable ease of use in delivering data
to users, including Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia
Messaging Service (MMS), WAP and general IP-based packet
communications.
GSM phones also offer language options for development that include
browser-based markup, Java and other applications. This provides
smooth transition between ease of development and application
performance. As such, Java is swiftly turning out to be the preferred
application approach. Effective DRM specifications and systems tha
t protect developer content are now available in GSM.
A number of factors that are likely to drive the future of GSM mobile
wireless data include a strong subscriber base (1.6 billion),
increasing wireless Internet usage, effective Digital Rights
Management, various security mechanisms and a significant
increase in the services available over a number of different devices.
The future holds promise for GSM standard.

Yahoo Goes Mobile

Yahoo's latest initiatives are aimed to eclipse the Google Local.
Yahoo's e-mail, instant messaging, photo and other services are now
available on mobile phones and PC-connected TVs, as well as on
personal computers without using a browser.
Yahoo Go, which the Internet company launched Friday, is a set of
communications and media applications, including Yahoo Mail, Yahoo
Messenger, Photos, calendar, address book, Web and image search,
news, sports and finance.
The services will be preloaded on Nokia Series 60 mobile phones and
available in 10 countries worldwide. SNAP Mobile consists of a compact yet powerful
client-side component operating together with sophisticated backend
technology.

SNAP Mobile is the Java counterpart to the N-Gage Arena technology.
As such, it offers unparalleled performance, plus the capability of
interoperating with games on multiple platforms. As earlier
announced, Nokia and Sun are collaborating to integrate Nokia's
SNAP Mobile into Sun's leading J2ME Wireless Toolkit. Nokia
and Sun will offer to mobile operators and other game distributors
an end-to-end integrated solution including a complete, highly
reliable and scalable platform for the download and connectivity of
multiplayer J2ME games, as well as the creation and support of
game player communities.

Nokia is also closely cooperating with several leading game developers
to ensure that operators and service providers interested in providing
J2ME online multiplayer games and gaming communities have access
to compelling content from day one.

Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.3 Beta Release

Hi,

Now comes Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.3 Beta. It includes all those
powerful J2ME application development features such as MIDlet
signing, certificate management, integrated over-the-air (OTA)
emulation, push registry emulation, and more present in J2ME
WTK 2.2. Note that it will be now called Sun Java Wireless Toolkit not
J2ME Wireless Toolkit.
Three more optional APIs have been included in this release specifi-
cally for security and location based capabilities. These are
Security and Trust Services API (JSR 177)
Location API (JSR 179)
Content Handler API (JSR 211)
The main distinguishing mark, though, is that this release includes
Nokia's Scalable Network Application Package (SNAP) Mobile API as
part of the toolkit's External API feature. To say Nokia has

been lagging for some time in this technology. Though CDMA is less

prevalent, it has been used in parts of Latin America and Asia

including India since quite some time. As the mobile market in Japan,

Korea and Europe are saturating rapidly Nokia is eyeing the emerging

markets of Africa, Latin America and underdeveloped parts of Asia.

And to maintain its leadership in these markets Nokia has launched

many low cast entry level handsets with rich features for these

markets.

Keeping the scope of CDMA handsets for these emerging markets in
mind Nokia has yesterday introduced two stylish CDMA handsets,
Nokia-2855 and Nokia-6165. the built in Bluetooth support in these
phones will support a wide range of Bluetooth devices, Java and BREW
application downloads, streaming of audio and video contents and
much more. These phones are aimed at the midrange Bluetooth

enabled CDMA mobile market and will be there to recover some lost

ground for Nokia in CDMA technology.

New Sony Ericsson P990

Hi,

Sony Ericsson has unveiled its new 3G Smartphone P990. There is
some thing special to talk about this phone as this phone will be first
commercially available smartphone that will be having Symbian
OS v9.1 and UIQ 3 software platform. V 9.1 is latest of Symbian
arsenal which will definitely add more punch to already most widely
used OS for mobile devices. Ok, but what is this UIQ 3 software
platform. This is recently launched an open software platform, based
on Symbian OS, allowing developers to potentially target all UIQ 3
based phones from different manufacturers, using one single codeline.
Applications will automatically receive the look and feel of the device
they run on without the need for the developer to write extra code
for it. Updates and bug fixes will be identical for all target platforms,
and only one code update is needed to propagate it to all UIQ 3 based
handsets. Developers are certainly going to be benefited from this
platform in long run. and as P990 has adopted this platform this phone
may be more developer friendly.

This Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) phone is
wi-fi enabled which will enhance its networking and data transfer
capabilities. Coming to the developer’s point of Java and C++ both
languages can be used to develop application for this device. In Java
platform there are four new JSRs including JSR-174 for web services
and JSR-184 for 3D development.

This stuff would be worth having for all mobile freaks and developers.
But wait pals, hold your breath till first quarter of next year when this
really cool and powerful gizmo do is slated to be released commercially.

Raj.

MIDP 3 is on the way.

JCP(Java Community Process) is working on Java Specification
Request-271 (JSR-271) which will specify 3rd generation mobile
information device profile which will enhance the capabilities of existing
MIDP 2 in all areas of functionality and will improve its interoperability
across various devices. As it
have been described in JSR paper it will simplify mobile application
development in J2ME and trimming down tension of transferring the
application to various devices. It is being designed keeping backward
compatibility with MIDP 2 content in focus but it may render a few
previous specifications such as JSR-118 MIDP 2.0 obsolete or
deprecated. Developers can look forward for greater flexibility while
application designing and standardization of application deployment
provisioning. And the percentage of smart phone
is increasing rapidly as spending capacity of African and
Asian continent, specially China and India.
In rapidly growing smart phones market, you have to
have some extra meat to lead the way. And Symbian OS
is the clear winner in this season. According to different
sources and projections roughly 40 to 45 million smart phones
enabled with Symbian OS will be shipped this year around
the globe. This data leaves other OS enabled phones way behind.
Microsoft OS is coming up but its reach too is about one fourth
to that of Symbian.
This smart hunting of Symbian is pushed ahead due to many smart
phone manufacturers including Nokia supporting their cause.
About 20 million Nokia’s series 60 smart phones which are Symbian
based, were sold in last 10 months ending in February.

Raj

How to think gaming way.

Hi,

Sometimes it is really very challenging to conceptualize the
ideas for designing mobile games, to be particular. Many a times
I came across the terms as “living technology”, “playing with
java” or “thinking in c++” etc., I was at guessing with these
terms previously but it stuck me really well after I started
working with J2ME and mobile games. If am at movie, one
thought will strike the left lobe of my brain that Can theme
of this movie not be exploited to design a game, if I am driving,
I will be thinking that what can be the idea behind a new racing
game that could make my game outstanding among the beehive
of numerous racing games around and if I am enjoying a sport
match on TV I will be thinking of converting that game in to
mobile games. It is very usual now that always, let I be doing
anything the thoughts of mobiles and mobile games keep floating
behind my brains. I am guessing afresh that this may be the real
meaning of those terms. And it can really ease the challenge to a
large extent.

Raj

Out of Subject

Hi,

Can we compare one day, one moment in our life with another one. I thought when I was selected for my boarding
school I was happiest, next moment my mind filled up with the
memories of result day after my schooling and after that a flurry
of memories spawned my thought. Recently
I came through the news that that this community is currently working
on the project called Mobile Tools for Java under its Device Software
Development Platform. The goal of this project is to extend existing
Eclipse framework to support mobile device Java application development.
Mobile Tools for Java will enable developers to develop, debug and
deploy mobile Java applications to emulators and real devices. This
development will enable Eclipse to emerge as a powerful Java mobile
application development IDE. It will be having all the necessary tools ,
API and configurations to carry out application development very efficiently.

Core features:

Device & Emulator framework :
The MTJ project will provide features to manage mobile runtimes and
provide frameworks for device vendors to add those runtimes to the
development environment.

Deployment framework :
MTJ process will develop a framework that will provide an API for vendor
specific plug-ins, which will then do the actual deployment using local
methods (e.g. Bluetooth, USB, IrDA) for testing on real devices.

Generic and customizable build process for mobile application development :
The goal is to enhance normal build process with mobile extensions like
JAR and JAD file generation..

Debugging :
The goal of this item is to enhance the current Debugging environment so
that it is possible to use mobile runtimes, either emulator or a real device

Application creation wizard :
MTJ is to enhance the existing wizards in Eclipse by providing Mobile
specific project wizard.

UI design tools :
The goal of these tools is to improve efficiency (easy drag and drop without
coding) and also decrease the entry barrier for newcomers. The target is
to bring mobile UI styles, components and layout rules to Eclipse.

Localization :
The MTJ will be supporting localization of the developed application.

Obfuscation and Code Size/Performance Optimization :
MTJ should be providing a number of ways to minimize the size of
applications and optimize the performance of application.

Signing tool :
The goal of MTJ is to support tooling to sign mobile applications. This
signing tool will provide extensibility to add solution specific signing tools.

The most interesting part of the story is that Nokia is the submitter of
this proposal and it have increased its participation in this project by
becoming a board member and strategic developer for this open source
project. Nokia will be leading this community to develop the Eclipse as
Java based IDE for mobile application development. This will avail one
more powerful IDE tool for us developers and beginners to go mobile way.

Raj.

To Begin With

Hi!
I started out with JAVA and J2ME(Java Micro/Mobile Edition).
First of all I installed J2SE on my system which is base for
any JAVA development and after that J2ME Wireless Toolkit.

J2ME WTK is ideal tool to start with, though it don’t have any
code editor or powerful debugger.

Raj

welcome to my littile console

hi!
this is my new bolg.
just a test page..

lot more to come.

Thanks
